Varsity Chargers now 3-0 for the Season

The Chariton varsity baseball team won their season opener against Carlisle, 2-1, at Chariton May 22.  The Chargers pounded out eight hits and received strong pitching from Brett Braida and Jordan Baughman toget the win.
Third baseman, TJ Hockenson, and right fielder Austin Peterson both had multi-hit games.  Hockenson went 3-3 with three singles and Peterson went 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
Braida started on the mound against Carlisle and got the win.  He threw for five and 1/3 innings and gave up one unearned run on five hits while striking out five and walking one.  Baughman went 1 2/3 innings and gave up no runs and one hit while striking out three and walking one.  Baughman started the game at shortstop.
The Chargers scored once in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead.  The score remained the same until the bottom of the fifth when Chariton added one more run to go ahead, 2-0.  The Wildcats scored once in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 2-1 but couldn't score again after that.
Second baseman Lucas Heaverlo went 1-2 with a single.  Braida went 1-3 with a single.  Catcher Alex Wright went 1-3 with a single, one run scored and he stole a base.  Center fielder, Token Hall, went 0-2 with a run scored and a walk.  Baughman went 0-2 with a walk.
