Season Closer is win for Chariton Lady Chargers

Late Goal Lifts Lady Chargers over PCM

On May 20th, the Lady Charger soccer team closed out their regular season at home against PCM and made Senior Night something special with a hard fought 4-3 win over the Mustangs.  PCM led 2-1 at halftime, but Chariton scored three second half goals to get the win.
The Lady Chargers have won nine of their last 10 games and are now 9-5 for the season.
The Lady Chargers wasted no time getting the scoring started when just five minutes into the game Kourtney Nichols dribbled the ball into the right corner of the goal.  She sent a ball through to the mouth of the goal where forward Emily Grismore rushed on to it and tapped it into the goal.
Chariton maintained the one goal lead until late in the first half when momentum seemed to change and PCM scored two quick goals within three minutes of each other.  PCM went into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
As with the first half, Chariton wasted little time in scoring.  This time, just two minutes into the half, Nichols won the ball and hit a hard shot past the Mustang keeper from the right flank, tying the score.
It was now Chariton's turn to score consecutive goals and just six minutes later midfielder, Cierra Covington, came from the left side and put her left-footed shot into the upper net, giving Chariton a 3-2 lead.
Play continued even until a Chariton defensive breakdown allowed PCM to tie the score again with jut 12 minutes left in the game.
The Lady Chargers were not to be denied and with only five minutes left, Covington took a corner kick that deflected and bounced around in front of the goal until Nichols again got a foot on it to score the game-winning goal.  Chariton played the final five minutes with great resolve.
