College News

Indian Hills Community College has released the names of the students who were on the college's academic Honor Roll for the Fall Term of the 2010-2011 year.  To be included on the Honor Roll, a student must be enrolled full-time and have a grade-point average between 3.5 and 4.0 for the term.  From Russell,  Tammy L. Jones, Kalina G. Litvin and Cindy M. Moore.

Masters Wins Miniature Bucking Bull World Championship

Cauy Masters, son of Travis and Andi Masters of Leon, and grandson of Jeannie Comstock and the late Jim Comstock of Ft. Scott, Kansas, Connie Moore and the late Jim Moore of Russell, and Charlotte Masters and the late Terry Masters of Newton, won the World Championship in the Pee Wee Division at the Second Annual miniature Bucking Bull World Finals held the weekend of Nov. 19 and 20, in Lincoln, Neb.  There were kids from Iowa, Nebraska, Utah, Colorado, Missouri, Kansas, Wyoming and Canada.  Competitions were for ages six through 14.  
Cauy attended the Tuff-N-Nuff Finals in Osceola in September, where he placed first in round one, second in round two and fourth in round three, winning with his average score.

Chariton Varsity Basketball - Clarke

Big second half comeback lifts Clarke over varsity Charger boys
 Chargers led by 19 in early third quarter
    The Chariton boys lose to Clarke, 53-48, in a conference game at Chariton Dec. 21.  Cody McCullough led Chariton in scoring with 13 points.  He also had five rebounds, one block, one steal and one assist.  Cole Pierschbacher had five points, two rebounds and one assist.  Jed Marvin had four points, three rebounds and five assists.  Tyler Knust had one steal in the game.

Cameron Knust had a team-high 15 points along with five rebounds, one block, three steals and three assists.  With the win Chariton is now 3-3 overall.   Cody Carroll had seven points, four rebounds and one steal.  Austin Peterson had three rebounds.

Varsity Girls Basketball get First Win against Davis Co.

Starting point guard, Presley Swan led the team with a stellar effort and good composure helping the team win over Davis County 51-49.  Swan had a huge night with a team high of 21 points and provided great defensive play and clutch free throw shooting to get the win.  Head Coach Lee Sandy said the team played real well.  Got behind early, made a few mistakes, but the girls didn't quit.

Trailing by 17 points midway through the fourth quarter the Chargers cut the lead to four points with just a minute left.  However Davis County came through down the stretch to win by eight.  Cody McCullough led the Chargers in scoring with 14 points to go along with seven rebounds, four blocks and three assists.

In the picture to the right, Cody collides with a Mustang player after a shot during the first half of the game.  Jed Marvin had seven points, seven rebounds, three steals and three assists.  Cole Pierschbacher had seven points and two rebounds.

JV Chargers have too many turnovers and lose to Davis Co. 45-41.  The game was tight throughout, but the Chargers committed 24 turnovers on the night.  With the loss the JV Chargers are now 2-3 over-all. 

Alex Wright had nine points and one steal.  Cameron Knust had eight points, three rebounds, one block, three steals and one assist.  Cody Carroll had four points, three rebounds and two steals.  Austin Peterson had four rebounds.

Late Marvin Three Sinks Panthers

A late three point basket by Jed Marvin gave the Chariton Varsity boys a 51-49 non-conference win over Knoxville at Knoxville.  Marvin finished with a team high 20 points along with five rebounds, two steals and two assists.  he scorched the nets from "trifecta land" going 6-8 from three-point range   Jed Marvin and Cody McCullough had great starts for the Chargers.  Cole Pierschbacher drained a hugh three-pointer to give Chariton a lead.  Pierschbacher added the front end of a one and one to cut the lead with under a minute to play.

JV Boys fall to Bondurant Dec 13 2010

Chariton led after one period, but bad shots and turnovers resulted in a 48-45 loss for the JV boys.  Cameron Knust led the team with 14 points, one rebound, three steals and one assist.  Cody Carroll had 10 points, a team-high 14 rebounds including nine offensive boards, and one steal.  Alex Wright had four points and two rebounds.  Austin Peterson had one rebound.

Varsity Boys Pound Albia SCC Opener

Varsity boys beat Albia  45-36.  Cody McCullough and Jed Marvin both reached double figures in scoring.  McCullough had a team high of 17 points and went 5-10 from inside the arc and 2-6 from three-point range.  McCullough also had four rebounds, one steal and one assist.  Jed Marvin had 11 points, three rebounds, three steals and five assists.  Cole Pierschbacher had two points, five rebounds, one steal and one assist.


JV Charger boys beat Albia 43-34.  Cameron Knust led Chariton in scoring with 12 points along with three rebounds, four steals and two assists.  Alex Wright had eight points, two rebounds, a steal and an assis.  Cody Carroll had six points, five rebounds, one steal and one assist.  Austin Peterson had one rebound.

Varsity Boys lose to PCM 67 - 51


 

 Monday, Dec. 6 the Chariton Varsity Basketball  boys lost to PCM.  Senior guard Jed Marvin nailed two three pointers in the first half to keep the Chargers in it.  Cameron Knust had five points and two rebounds.  Cole Pierschbacher had two points and an assist and Tyler Knust had an assist.

McCullough finished with a team-high 12 points along with three rebounds, a steal and three assists.  Marvin went 3-5 from three point range and finished with 11 points and three assists.

Varsity boys win over Pleasantville

The Chariton varsity boys put forth a stellar defensive effort in a 44-33 win over Pleasantville at home on Dec. 2.  Senior guard Jed Marvin sizzled the nets going 4-11 from three-point range and finished with a team-high 18 points.  He also had one rebound, four steals and two assists.  Cody McCullough had six points, eight rebounds, one block, two steals and three assists.  Cole Pierschbacher had two rebounds and two assists in the game.

Chariton Boys Basketball Nov. 30 against I-35

Varsity Boys and Girls lose to I-35

On Nov. 30, both basketball varsity teams played I-35 and lost their games.  

Cody McCullough led Chariton in scoring with 10 points, five rebounds, one steal and one assist.  Jed Marvin had two points and three assists.  Cole Pierschbacher had two points and one rebound.  Tyler Knust had one rebound.  The final score was 53-34.

For the girls, despite a strong defensive effort, lost 41-23 in their home opener.  Guard Presley Swan had three points.  Coach Lee Sandy said, "In three games so far we've held each team in the 40's and we've out-rebounded all three opponents, but we're struggling scoring points.

4-H'ers Recognized for Achievements on Nov. 7th.


4-H'ers received awards in several categories at the Annual Lucas County Awards Program.  Awards were given based on the 4-H'ers record books.  Record books must be turned in for a 4-H'er to be eligible to receive awards.  Many Russell boys and girls received these awards.
