Varsity Charger Boys Beat Knoxville, 50-46

The Chariton Varsity boy's basketball team held on to beat Knoxville, 50-46 at Knoxville January 21.  The Chargers won despite shooting 42 percent from inside the arc, 1-10 from three-point range and going 17-36 from the line.  This was a hard fought game throughout.  The game was deadlocked at five apiece after one period.  The Chargers outscored the Panthers 16-11 in the second period to take a 21-16 lead into halftime.
The Panthers outscored the Chargers 13-10 in the third period to cut the led to 31-29 heading into the final period.  In a high-scoring fourth period, the Chargers outscored the Panthers, 19-17 and played with good poise down the stretch to get the win.
Alex Wright had seven points, one steal and one assist.  Cole Pierschbacher went 6-8 from the line and had six points, a team-high 10 rebounds and one block. 

Varsity Boys Fall to Davis County Thriller

In an exciting, action packed game, the Chariton Varsity Boys lost a thriller to Davis County, 64-61 at Chariton High School.  The game was deadlocked at halftime and a slow start by Chariton in the second half hurt their chances of coming out with the victory.
The game was back and forth in the first half and kept the fans on the edge of their seat with non-stop action.  Davis County held an 18-15 lead after one period but Chariton outscored the Mustangs in the second to tie the game at 33 apiece at halftime.
Chariton came out slowly in the second half and got down by about seven and couldn't recover.  The Mustangs led 54-50 after three periods.  The fourth quarter was nip and tuck all the way and Chariton had a couple of open looks to tie it at the end of the game but they just didn't go down.
Cole Pierschbacher had two points, four rebounds and a steal.  Alex Wright had two points, one rebound and two steals.

9th Girls lose at Eddyville, 43-11

The Chariton Freshmen girl's basketball team lost to Eddyville-Blakesburg, 43-11 at Eddyville, January 16.  Their defense was very strong and our very poor shooting really hurt us.  Lindsay Black had one rebound and one steal.

Wright Scores 19 in JV Game at Grinnell

It was a tale of two halves for the Chariton JV boys in a 52-48 loss at Grinnell on January 14.  The JV Chargers dominated the first half and led 31-16 at halftime.  However, the Chargers weren't as strong defensively in the second half and couldn't quite hold on for the win.  With the loss the JV Chargers moved to 5-5 overall.
Alex Wright had a very good game offensively with a team-high 19 points along with three rebounds.  The JV Chargers played very well at both ends at the start and built a 19-7 lead after one period.  They continued to be solid on the defensive end outscoring the Tigers 9-7 in the second period to take a 31-16 lead into halftime.
The Tigers came out strong and reversed the trend by outscoring the Chargers 20-4 in the third to take a 36-35 lead heading into the fourth period.   Austin Peterson had four points, three rebounds and two assists.  Conner Altenhofen had two points, two rebounds and a block.  Alec Reynolds had two rebounds and two assists.

CHS JV Chargers Win Over Clarke on the Road

Defense! Defense! Again the JV team used their skills in defense to conquer Clark at Osceola, 43-10.  The JV Chargers held the Indians to just two points in three of the four periods.  With the win the Chargers moved to 5-4 overall.  The Chargers stormed out to a 12-4 lead after one period.  Chariton outscored the Indians 12-2 in the second.  They kept up their great effort and outscored the Indians 13-2 in the third quarter and 6-2 in the fourth.
Joey Krutsinger had four points, five rebounds and two blocks.  Austin Peterson had two points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist.  Alec Reynolds had two points, four rebounds, one block and two steals.

Varsity Boys Fall to Pella

Again the Chariton Varsity basketball boys had a slow start, but were unable to overcome this time.  They lost to Pella, 78-59 on January 17.  The Chargers fell behind 25-7 after one period and trailed 40-18 at half-time.
Pella's pressure defense gave the Chargers trouble throughout the game and Chariton gave up a lot of second chance points.  Alex Wright led Chariton in scoring with 17 points to go along with two rebounds and two steals.
Chariton wasn't able to make a run in the second half as Pella outscored them 16-12 in the third and 22-19 in the fourth.
Cody Carroll had two points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal.  Cole Pierschbacher had one point, one rebound, one assist and one steal.

Varsity Boys Beat Albia after Slow Start

After a slow start, the team came out ahead with a 49-34 win against Albia.  After giving up 17 points in the first quarter, the Chargers clamped down defensively and gave up just 17 points the rest of the game.  Defense tonight was the best they have played all year.  The Chargers took good care of the ball committing just seven turnovers.  Cole Pierschbacher had eight points.  Alex Wright had two points and  two rebounds.

CHS JV Girls Fall to Centerville

The CHS JV girls lost to Centerville 41-29 at Chariton, January 6.  Leah Dow had five points, five rebounds and four steals.

Varsity Charger Boys Lose to Grinnell

The Chariton varsity boys put forth a strong effort, but lost 71-62 to Grinnell.  Grinnell is ranked #8 in Class 3A, but the Chargers hung right with the Tigers.  Brendan Laing had 12 points, two rebounds, four steals and four assists.  Alex Wright had 10 points, two rebounds, one steal and three assists.  Cody Carroll had two points.  Cole Pierschbacher had one assist.

Varsity Boys Defense Beats Clarke

A relentless defensive effort lifted the Chariton Varsity Boys to a 51-38 win at Clarke.  The Chargers led by three at the half and outscored the Indians by 10 in the second half.  Brendan Laing had seven points, four rebounds, one block, two steals and three assists.  Cole Pierschbacher had three points, five rebounds, one block and one assist.  Alex Wright had two points and three rebounds.

JV Chargers soar over Rockets in 36-Point Win

The Chariton JV Boys dominated the game from start to finish in a 57-21 win over Eddyville-Blakesburg at Chariton on January 3.  The boys outscored the opposition 20-3 in the first quarter and in the second to take a 40-6 half-time lead.  Chariton had a balanced scoring attack led by Alex Wright who had a team-high 11 points along with three rebounds, six steals and three assists.    Austin Peterson had nine points, one rebound, three steals and one assist.  Conner Altenhofen had nine points and four rebounds.  Alec Reynolds had two points, two rebounds, one steal and two assists.  Joey Krutsinger had four rebounds and one steal.

Varsity Boys lose to Centerville

A slow start and a relentless pressure defense by Centerville were two key factors in the Chariton varsity boys' 70-43 loss at Centerville January 6.  After a slow start, the team just could not catch up.  Ball turnover happened way too much.  The teams shooting was poor also.  Cole Pierschbacher had four points, five rebounds, one steal and one assist. Cody Carroll had two points and one rebound.  Alex Wright had three assists and two steals

JV Charger Boys Lost at Centerville

The Charger boys lost at Centerville, 51-45.  The first and fourth quarters were keys in the game as the JV Chargers gave up 20 points in the first quarter and only scored three points in the fourth.
Alex Wright went 2-6 from three-point range and finished with a team-high 10 points along with three rebounds, one block and two assists.  Austin Peterson had four points, a team-high eight rebounds, two steals and four assists.  Conner Altenhofen had four points and one assist.

6-0! 8th Charger boys remain unbeaten by clobbering Clarke

The Chariton eighth grade boys' basktball team's 50-12 shellacking of Clarke at Osceola January 5th was a real thriller.  With the win the Chargers remained undefeated and moved to 6-0 overall.  The defense really held Clarke at bay.  Clarke was scoreless in the first quarter.  At half-time the score was 23-4.  As a team Chariton had 32 rebounds including 13 offensive and 19 defensive boards.  Brad Krutsinger had eight points and a game-high six steals.  Chase Altenhofen had two points.

Varsity Boys lose game to Eddyville-Blakesburg

The Chariton varsity boys lost a close hard fought game against, Eddyville-Blakesburg, 51-49 at CHS January 3.  The boys played really hard, but gave up too many offensive rebounds.  Ball turnover really hurt the Chargers and they struggled shooting the ball.
Cole Pierschbacher went 3-5 from inside the arc and 2-4 from three-point range and had 12 points, three rebounds, three steals, one block and one assist.  Brendon Laing had nine points, four rebounds, three steals and four assists.  Cody Carroll had two rebounds.  Alex Wright had a steal and two assists.
