Varsity Girls Beat Davis County

In Chariton, the Varsity Girls beat Davis County after a big first and third inning.  Four runs were scored in the first and two in the third.  Ellie Bengtson received a shutout for her performance pitching to get their fourth straight win.  With the victory, the Lady Chargers improved to 8-13 overall.   
Left fielder, Kourtney Nichols, started things off in the top of the first inning with a single.  Kylie Bengtson sacrifice bunted Nichols to second in the top of the first inning.  With two outs, catcher Emma Fuhs, reached on an error to score Nichols.  Maria Blong came in as a courtesy runner for Fuhs.  Second baseman Micaela Folkerts singled to score Blong and give Chariton a 2-0 lead.  Center fielder, Delaney Richards, hit a single.  Folkerts and Richards stole third and second base.  Right fielder Emily Grismore reached base on an error, scoring both Folkerts and Richards and giving Chariton a 4-0 lead.  With two outs in the bottom of the third, shortstop Alexis Curran walked.  Pitcher Ellie Bengtson singled and Sarah Fuhs came in as a courtesy runner.  Curran and Fuhs stole third and second.  Nichols singled to score Fuhs and put Chariton up 5-0.  Curran scored on a wild pitch that occurred when Nichols was up to give Chariton a 6-0 lead.  Ellie Bengtson went the distance on the mound and got the win.  In seven innings she gave up no runs and four hits while striking out six and walking one.  Chariton's defense was solid behind Bengtson, committing no errors.  Chariton had 10 hits and just wo strikeouts at the plate.  Chariton had 21 put outs and 13 assists as a team.

JV Chargers get win over Davis County on June 27th.  A big offensive performance from the beginning sparked the Chariton JV girls to a 7-3 win over Davis County in five innings at Chariton.  The JV Girls scored six runs in the first three innings and Kelsey Carver smacked a home run in the win.  With the victory, the Chariton JV girls moved to 9-6 overall.
Carver went 2-2 with a home run, a single, a run scored and three RBIs.  Maria Blong went 2-3 with a triple, a single, two runs scored.  Mackenzie Welch pitched the whole game with Jessica Wiederholt as her catcher.  Welch gave up three runs, all earned, on eight hits while striking out three and walking three.  Chariton's defense was very good behind Welch committing just one error.
Davis County scored two runs in the top of the first to take an early 2-0 lead.
The lead was short-lived as Chariton answered with three runs in the bottom of the first to go ahead, 3-2.  Chariton scored once in the second to take a 4-2 lead.  The JV Chargers got two big insurance runs in the bottom of the third when Blong smacked a triple into the fence.  The next batter, Carver, smashed a home run over the left/center field fence to push Chariton's lead to 6-2.  Wiederholt went 1-3 with a single and a run scored.  Carley Arnold had one RBI.  Nikki Vande Lune, Kendall Hardie and Laura Tordoff each scored one run.

9th Charger Girls Softball team wins over Davis County
Outstanding hitting and pitching sparked the Chariton freshman girls softball team to a 15-2 win over Davis County at Chariton June 27th.  Chariton pounded out 15 runs on 12 hits and had just one strikeout.  Sophia DeMaria pitched a four-hitter in the win.  In four innings DeMaria gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out four and walking two.
Five players had two-hit games for Chariton.  Curran went 2-4 with two singles, a run scored and two RBIs.  Sayde Terrell went 2-3 with a double, single, three runs scored and two RBIs.  She also reached base by error once, was hit by a pitch and stole a base.  Carlie Schaeffer went 2-2 with two singles, two runs scored and two stolen bases.  Zoey Dooley went 2-3 with two singles, a run scored and she reached base by error once.  Shaynee McCormick went 2-2 with two singles, a run scored, two RBIs and one stolen base.  Ashley Storm went 1-3 with a single, two runs scored, an RBI and a walk.  She also stole three bases and hit into two fielder's choices.  DeMaria went 1-3 with a double, a run scored, two RBIs and a walk.  Kendall Hardie went 0-2 with two runs scored, two walks and she reached base by error once.  Tiffany reached base by error once.  Tiffany Dale went 0-3 with a run scored, two RBIs and a walk.  She also reached base by error once.  Allison Summerfield went 0-2.  Morgan Cochran scored a run and had a walk.
