Varsity ChargersDefeat Centerville in Twin Bill

Varsity Chargers sweep Big Reds in home twinbill to move to 24-2.  The Chargers won the first game 18-4 in five innings and they took the nightcap, 7-6.  With the sweep, Chariton improved to 24-2 overall.

In the first game, Chariton pounded out 18 runs on 15 hits.  Left fielder Austin Ritenour had a huge game at the plate going 4-4 with a triple, three singles, four runs scored and two RBIs.  Catcher Alex Wright also had a big game going 3-3 with three singles, four RBIs and a walk.
Chariton scored three runs in the first and two more in the second to take an early 5-1 lead.  The Big Reds scored three runs in the top of the third to cut the lead to 5-4.  Chariton responded with three more runs in the bottom of the third to make it an 8-4 game.  But then Chariton exploded for 10 runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach.


Jordan Baughmanl started the game on the mound and got the win.  In four innings he gave up four runs, all earned, on six hits, while striking out four and walking two.  T.J. Hockenson pitched one inning and gave up no runs and one hit while striking out one and walking one.  
Baughman went 2-2 with a double, single, two runs scored, three RBIs and two walks.  Right fielder Ben Kinser went 2-4 with two singles, a run scored and an RBI.  Second baseman Lucas Heaverlo went 2-5 with two singles, two runs scored and a stolen base.  Shortstop Austin Peterson went 1-2 with a single, three runs scored, an RBI, and two walks.  Third baseman Brett Braida went 1-3 with a single, a run scored and two RBIs.  Center fielder Token Hall went 0-3 with three runs scored, an RBI, a stolen base and two walks.  Hockenson went 0-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.  Brett Hardin scored a run.  Charlie Palmer played at first base.

Chariton won a much closer second game,  7-6.  Chariton led 2-1 after one inning and scored once in the second to push the lead to 3-1.  The Big Reds scored once in the top of the third to cut the lead to 3-2 but the Chargers scored twice more in the bottom of the third to make it a 5-2 game.  
Centerville rallied to score three runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 5-5.  They also scored once in the top of the fifth to take a 6-5 lead.  However, the Chargers rallied to score two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-6 lead.  They held the Big Reds scoreless over the final two innings to get the win.
Wright, Baughman and Kinser each pitched with Wright getting the win.  In five innings he gave up six runs, all earned on seven hits while striking out three and walking three.  Baughman pitched one inning and gave up no runs and no hits while striking out one and walking none.  Kinser pitched one inning and gave up no runs and two hits while striking out one and walking none.
At the plate, Chariton pounded out seven runs on five hits.  Wright went 2-2 with two singles, a run scored, two RBIs and a walk.  Kinser went 1-3 with a single, an RBI and a stolen base.  Braida went 1-3 with a single and an RBI.  Heaverlo went 1-4 with a single.  Hall went 0-3 with a run scored and a walk.  Peterson went 0-3 with two runs scored, a stolen base and a walk.  Baughman went 0-1 with two runs scored.  Hockenson went 0-2 with a run scored, two RBIs and a stolen base.  Ritenour went 0-3.
