Girl's Softball against Clarke at Home

On June 20th, the Varsity Girls softball team came up a little short and lost 6-0 to Clarke.  Their offensive game just couldn't get going and mistakes hurt them.  With the loss Chariton moves to 4-1 overall.
Key hits with runners on base, seemed to fail.  Pitching by Ellie Bengston was solid and heads up playing in the field was good also. In the bottom of the second Chariton had two runners on base but were unable to get them across.  Ellie Bengston went the distance on the mound and took the loss.  In seven innings she gave up six runs, three earned, on six hits, while striking out four and walking three. She also allowed one sacrifice.

Clarke scored twice in the top of the first and once in the second to take a 3-0 lead.  Chariton designated hitter Sarah Fuhs began the bottom of the first inning with a hard hit into center field but she didn't score.  In the top of the second pitcher Ellie Bengtson started off the inning strong with a strike out and a ground out for two quick outs.  Chariton ended the inning with a good play as first baseman Kylie Bengtson and second baseman Micaela Folkerts caught a runner in a pickle and Fokerts tagged her out at second.

Catcher Emma Fuhs drew a walk to start the inning and Chelsea McGee came in as a courtesy runner for Fuhs.  Third baseman Maria Blong struck out for the first out.

Kylie Bengtson drew a walk to put runners at first and second with one out.  Center fielder Delaney Richards struck out for the second out and pitcher Ellie Bengtson also struck out to end the inning to keep the score at 3-0.  Clarke scored once in the bottom of the fourth to lead 4-0.  The Indians scored twice in the top of the seventh to go ahead 6-0 and to round out the scoring.

Chariton had three hits and seven strikeouts at the plate.  Sarah Fuhs went 1-2 with a single and a walk,  Alexis Curran went 1-2 with a single, a walk and a stolen base.  She also reached base by error once.  Richards went 1-3 with a single and a stolen base.

Kylie Bengston and Emma Fuhs each went 0-2 with a walk.  Left fielder Kourtney Nichols went 0-3 and Folkers went 0-3 and reached base by error once.  Ellie Bengtson and Maria Blong each went 0-3.  Emily Grismore started in right field.

Chariton committed six errors defensively.  They had 21 put outs and 13 assists as a team.  Kylie Bengtson led the team in put outs with six and Emma Fuhs had five.  Curran had four and Folkerts had two.  Grismore, Nichols, Blong and Ellie Bengtson each had one.''

Bad Second Inning Hurts JV Girls in Loss to Clarke

A bad second inning proved to be the difference in the Chariton JV girls' 8-6 loss to Clarke at Chariton on June 20th.  The JV Charger girls led 1-0 after one inning but Clarke reeled off eight runs in the top of the second to take an 8-1 lead.  Chariton scored four runs in the third to cut the lead to 8-5 and one more in the sixth but it wasn't quite enough.

Mackenzie Welch took the loss on the mound.  Welch gave up eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits, while striking out two and walking four, Jessica Wiederholt was the catcher.

Chariton committed two errors on defense and had eight hits.  Carley Arnold had a big night at the plate going 2-2 with a double, single, a run scored and two RBIs.  Nikki Vande Lune went 2-3 with two singles and a run scored.  Welch went 1-3 with a single, a run scored and two RBIs.  Meredith Davis and Britany White each went 1-3 with a single and a run scored.  Sarah Fuhs went 1-4 with a single and a run scored.  Kendall Hardie had an RBI.

DeMaria, Curran lead as 9th Girls Defeat Clarke

The Chariton freshman girls posted a 6-5 win over Clarke at Chariton on June 20th.  Sophia DeMaria went 2-2 with a triple and a double, a run scored and two RBIs.  Mackenzie Curran went 2-2 with a triple and a single and a run scored and she stole a base.

Chariton Freshman Head Coach Tanna Seuferer was pleased with her team's performance.  DeMaria pitched the whole game and got the win.  In four innings she gave up five runs, all earned, on six hits while striking out six and walking one.  Saydee Terrell went 1-1 with a single and a run scored, a stolen base and she was hit by a pitch.  Kendall Hardie went 0-1 with a run scored, a walk and she stole two bases.  Ashley Storm went 0-1 with a run scored and a walk.  Shaynee McCormick and Tiffany Dale each went 0-2.  Carlie Schaffer went 0-1 with a run scored and a walk and she stole two bases.  Morgan Cochran went 0-1.
