Go Pink Night Varsity Girls Softball

Varsity girls softball team falls to Eddyville on Go Pink Night, June 13, 3-0.

A huge crowd, with pink shirts, hats and anything else they could think of, including the softball and field bags, watched the Chariton girls as they hosted Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in a hard fought battle only to end up defeated.  Both teams battled hard for a good cause.  The Rockets scored all three of their runs in the second inning and held on for the win.  Eddyville played very well.  Their shortstop made several great plays and their pitcher hit her spots to keep the Chariton team off balance.
Chariton had just three hits in the game and committed four errors defensively.  Ellie Bengtson went the distance on the mound and took the loss.  In seven innings she gave up three runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out and walking two.  She also gave up one sacrifice.  Chariton had 21 put outs and 10 assists as a team.  Kylie Bengtson led the team in put outs with five.  Davis had four and Folkerts and McGee each had three.  Emma Fuhs had two, Nichols, Richards, Ellie Bengtson and Grismore each had one.  McGee led the team in assists with four.  Folkerts and Ellie Bengtson each had two.  Kylie Bengtson and Emma Fuhs each had one.
