Chargers Sweep Davis County in Double Header

Peterson hits two home runs in varsity boys sweep of Davis County

The Chariton varsity baseball team swept a doubleheader at Davis County June 20th.  The Chargers won the first game, 8-1 and the second game 14-9.  The Chargers pounded out a combined 24 hits in both games including three home runs.  Two of the home runs were by right fielder, Austin Peterson, who went 6-7 in both games with two home runs, a double, four runs scored, eight RBIs and two walks.

In the first game, Chariton scored eight runs on 11 hits.  Center fielder Token Hall and Peterson went 3-3 with a home run and two singles, a run scored, two RBIs and a walk.  Hall went 2-4 with a home run, a double, three runs scored and four RBIs.  Designated hitter Austin Ritenour went 2-3 with two singles.  Charlie Palmer went the distance on the mound and got the win.  In seven innings he gave up one earned run on five hits while striking out four and walking one.
Chariton scored once in the first and three runs in the second to take a 4-0 lead.  The Chargers added four more runs in the top of the fourth to push the lead to 8-0.  Davis County scored their only run in the bottom of the fourth.  Second baseman, Lucas Heaverlo, went 1-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.  Third baseman Brett Braida went 1-3 with a single and a walk.  Catcher Alex Wright went 1-4 with a single and an RBI and shortstop Jordan Baughman went 1-4 with a single.  Left Fielder Ben Kinser, went 0-4 with a stolen base.  First baseman T.J. Hockenson went 0-4.

In the second game, Chariton overcame an early 7-0 deficit to win the nightcap, 14-9.  Davis County led 7-0 after the third inning but the Chargers outscored them, 14-2 over the last four innings to get the sweep.  Chariton outscored the Mustangs in the sixth and seventh innings, 10-0.  The Chargers were again efficient at the plate scoring 14 runs on 13 hits.  Baughman and Wright both handled pitching duties with Baughman getting the win.  In three innings, Baughman gave up one earned run on four hits while striking out three and walking one.  Wright pitched four innings and gave up eight runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out four and walking one.
Peterson also hit a home run in this game going 3-4 with a home run, double, single, three runs scored, six RBIs and a walk.  Ritenour went 2-4 with a double, single and two runs scored.  Braida went 2-4 with two singles and an RBI.  Wright went 2-5 with a double and a single, a run scored and two RBIs.  Hockenson went 2-5 with two singles and two RBIs.  Kinser went 1-1 with a single, two runs scored and two walks.  Baughman went 1-3 with a single, two runs scored, an RBI, a stolen base and a walk.  Heaverlo went 0-2 with a run scored and two walks.  Hall went 0-3 with three runs scored, an RBI and a walk.  Hockenson went 0-2 with two RBIs.  Braida went 0-2 with one RBI.
