Chargers Split with Rockets at EBF

Rockets Hand Chargers First Loss in Twinbill Split

The Chariton boys lost their first game this season to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, 6-1, in the first game of a twin-bill night, but came back in the nightcap to win 10-0.

Rocket pitching ace, Christian Bambrook tossed a four-hitter with eight strikeouts to take the first win. Bambrook scattere four hits and three walks while striking out eight.  In the loss, Chariton's only run came in the fifth inning when Token Hall scored to narrow the gap to 2-1.  The Rockets scored two runs in the first inning off starter Jordan Baughman.  But the Rockets added two in the fifth and two in the sixth to capture the victory.  Austin Peterson had two hits including a double to lead the Chargers at the plate.  Lucas Heaverlo added two hits and Baughman and TJ Hockenson had a hit each.  Hockenson pitched the final two outs of the game.

The Rockets scored two in the third, fifth and sixth innings. In the second game the Chargers pounded out 10 runs on nine hits.  Brett Braida went the distance, giving up three hits and two walks.  Chariton scored two in the second, four in the third and four in the fourth in the five-inning affair.  Austin Peterson had two hits including a home run, scored two runs and had three RBI.  Hockenson had three hits including two doubles, drove in four runs and scored two.  Braida had two hits including a double and an RZBI.  Alex Wright had a single and scored two runs.  Baughman had an RBI as did Ben Kinser.

In the Des Moines Christian game, the Chargers scored a run in the first and another in the third before DMC rallied to tie the game 2-2 in the fifth.  The sixth inning was the decisive inning as Chariton scored two and DMC one for a 4-3 Charger victory.
Hockenson went six innings, giving up three runs on three hits and a walk while striking out six.  Austin Peterson picked up the save.  He struck out one and gave up a  hit.
Baughman had two hits including a home run and two RBI to lead the Chargers.  Hockenson had a hit and two stolen bases.  Peterson had an RBI and Ben Kinser had an RBI double.  The Chargers move to 9-3 on the season.
