Twinbill Split with Centerville

The Chariton varsity baseball team split a doubleheader with Centerville at Chariton June 10th.  The Chargers blanked the Big Reds, 11-0, in one game and lost the other 3-2.  It was only the second loss of the season for the Chargers, who moved to 9-2 overall.  
Brett Braida pitched and took the loss on the mound.  In six and 1/3 innings, Braida gave up three runs, all earned, on six hits while striking out two and walking two.  Jordan Baughman pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up no runs and one hit while striking out none and walking none. 
Chariton scored once in the first to take a 1-0 lead.  The Big Reds scored once in the fourth to tie the game at one apiece.  Chariton scored once in the sixth to regain the lead, 2-1.  However, the Big Reds scored two more runs in the top of the seventh and held the Chargers scoreless in the bottom of the inning to get the win.
The Chargers had five hits in this game including two doubles and three singles.  They also had two RBIs and two stolen bases.  
In the second game, Chariton blanked the Big Reds 11-0, pounding out 11 runs on 11 hits.  The Chargers scored twice in the first and four times in the third to take a 6-0 lead.  They scored five more runs in the sixth.
Palmer pitched all six innings and tossed a one hitter on the mound.  He gave up no runs and one hit while striking out nine and walking one.
Peterson and Wright each had three-hit games for the Chargers.  Peterson went 3-3 with three singles, three runs scored, an RBI, a stolen base and a walk.  Wright went 3-4 with a double, two singles, a run scored and a team-high five RBIs.  Heaverlo went 2-3 with two singles, three runs scored and a walk.  Baughman went 2-4 with a triple, a single, two runs scored and three RBIs.  Braida went 1-3 with a single, a stolen base and a walk.  Kinser went 0-2 with an RBI and a walk.  Ritenour went 0-2 with a run scored.  Hockenson went 0-4 with an RBI and Hall went 0-4.  Courtesy runner, Brett Hardin, scored a run.
