Varsity girls softball team suffered another tough loss and lost a starter to injury in a 4-0 loss at Centerville on June 17th. Miranda Davis, starting shortstop will be out 4-6 weeks due to a broken pinkie she suffered in this game. Only two hits offensively and three errors defensively resulted in a tough game for the Chargers. Kylie Bengtson moved over to shortstop and Nikki Vande Lune played at first base. The Redettes scored once in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Centerville scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth to round out the scoring.
Ellie Bengtson went the distance on the mound and took the loss. In six innings she gave up four runs, all earned, on nine hits while striking out none and walking three. She also gave up two sacrifices. Left fielder Kourtney Nichols went 1-2 with a single. Ellie Bengston went 1-3 with a single. Right fielder Emily Grismore went 0-1 with a walk and a sacrifice. Vande Lune, center fielder, Delaney Richards and third baseman Chelsea McGee each went 0-2. Second baseman Micaela Folkerts went 0-3. Catcher Emma Fuhs went 0-4 and was hit by a pitch. Kylie Bengtson went 0-4 and reached base by error once. Pinch hitter Maria Blong and center fielder Alexis Curran each went 0-1. First baseman Sarah Fuhs had a sacrifice.
Chariton had 18 put outs and nine assists as a team. Folkerts led the team in put outs with five and Vande Lune had four. Kylie Bengtson had three and Grismore and McGee had two apiece. Nichols and Emma Fuhs each had one. McGee led the team in assists with three. Kylie Bengtson and Folkerts each had two. Fuhs and Ellie Bengtson had one apiece.
