Varsity Girls Softball team beats Grandview Park Baptist at Boone Tourney
The Chariton varsity girls softball team traveled to Boone for the Boone Tourney June 21st and 22nd. The Lady Chargers went 1-2 in the three games losing to Boone, 8-1, and Glenwood, 8-1, while beating Grandview Park Baptist, 5-4.
In game one Chariton faced host Boone and lost 8-1. Chariton did better at the plate with six hits in this game and only had three strikeouts. First baseman, Kylie Bengtson, went 2-4 with two singles and a run scored.
Each team scored once in the first to make it 1-1 after one inning. Boone scored twice in the third and two more runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. The Toreadors scored three more times in the sixth and held on for the win. Ellie Bengtson went the distance on the mound and took the loss. In seven innings she gave up eight runs, seven earned, while striking out five and walking three. She also gave up two sacrifices. Chariton committed three errors defensively.
Left fielder Kourtney Nichols went 1-2 with a single and was hit by a pitch. Catcher Emma Fuhs went 1-3 with a single and a RBI and third baseman Maria Blong went 1-3 with a single. Ellie Bengtson went 1-3 with a single. Designated hitter, Sarah Fuhs, went 0-4 and reached base by error once. Second Baseman Micaela Folkerts, center fielder, Delaney Richards and shortstop Alexis Curran each went 0-3. Emily Grismore started in right field and Chelsea McGee started as a courtesy runner.
Chariton had 21 put outs and 11 assists as a team. Kylie Bengtson and Emma Fuhs, each led the team in put outs with six. Richards had three and Grismore and Folkerts each had two. Nichols and Curran had one apiece. Ellie Bengtson led the team in assists with five and Blong had four. Folkerts and Emma Fuhs each had one.
In game two against Glenwood, Chariton also had six hits but also stranded seven base runners and had nine strikeouts. First baseman Nikki Vande Lune had a good game at the plate going 3-3 with two singles and a double, an RBI and a stolen base. Shortstop Kylie Bengtson went 2-4 with two singles. Nichols went 1-3 with a single and a stolen base.
Glenwood scored once in the third to take a 1-0 lead. Chariton scored once in the fourth and the Rams scored four runs to make the score 5-1 after four innings. The Rams scored once in the fifth and two more runs in the seventh to round out the scoring.
Alexis Curran went the distance on the mound in this game and took the loss. In seven innings she gave up eight runs, six earned, on five hits while striking out three and walking four. She allowed two sacrifices and hit one batter. Chariton committed two errors defensively.
Right fielder Sarah Fuhs went 0-4 and reached base by error twice. Folkerts went 0-4. Emma Fuhs went 0-3 and reached base by error once. Richards went 0-2 with a walk. Curran went 0-2 with a run scored and a walk. Blong went 0-03. Grismore also played in right field and McGee started started at third base.
Chariton had 21 put outs and 11 assists and 11 assists as a team. Vande Lune led the team in put outs with seven. Emma Fuhs had four and Folkerts had three. Kylie Bengtson, Richards and Nichols each had two. Grismore had one. Curran led the team in assists with seven. Kylie Bengtson and Folkerts had two apiece.
An efficient game at the plate lifted Chariton to a 5-4 win over Grandview Park Baptist in the third game at the tournament. Chariton scored five runs on six hits in five innings to get the win. The game lasted only five innings due to the hour and a half time limit. Folkerts went 2-2 with two singles, a run scored and an RBI.
Chariton had just two strikeouts in this game and overcame five errors defensively. Ellie Bengtson pitched the whole game and got the win. In five innings she gave up four runs, all earned, while striking out four and walking three. Nichols went 1-2 with a single, a run scored, a walk and a stolen base. Richards went 1-3 with a single and an RBI. Curran went 1-3 with a single and an RBI. Curran went 1-3 with a single and a stolen base. Emma Fuhs went 1-3 with a single. Kylie Bengtson went 0-2 with an RBI, a sacrifice and a stolen base. She also reached base by error once. Vande Lune went 0-2 with a run scored and a walk. Grismore went 0-3 with a run scored and she reached base by error once. Ellie Bengtson went 0-1 with a sacrifice. Blong scored one run and stole a base as a courtesy runner. McGee started at third base.
Chariton had 15 put outs and six assists as a team. Emma Fuhs led the team in put outs with four and McGee and Folkerts had three apiece. Kylie Bengtson had two, Nichols, Curran and Ellie Bengtson each had one. Ellie Bengtson led the team in assists with five. Folkerts had one.
