After the Chariton JV softball team had its first two games rained out, they were anxious to travel to Ottumwa June 1st for the Ottumwa JV Classic. In the first game, a very strong Ottumwa JV team beat the Chariton girls in three innings, 12-0; in the second game, Chariton lost to the Fairfield JV girls, 8-6.
In the first game, after a scoreless first inning, Ottumwa scored four runs in the second inning and eight in the third to get the win. Sophia DeMaria pitched the whole game with Saydee Terrell as her catcher. DeMaria gave up12 runs, nine earned, on 11 hits while striking out one and walking two.
In the second game, Fairfield against Chariton, the Chargers had a tough first inning and ended up losing in five innings After trailing 2-1 after one inning, Chariton scored five runs in the second to take a 6-2 lead. However the Trojans scored six runs in the fourth to take an 8-6 lead and held on for the win. Mackenzie Welch pitched the whole game with Jessica Wiederholt as her catcher. Welch gave up eight earned runs on eight hits while striking out one and walking two.
