Key Hits by Folkerts and Nichols lift varsity girls to a 4-3 win over Pleasantville on June 12th. Big hits in the second and sixth innings helped get the win. With the victory Chariton improved to 4-7 overall.
The first inning was scoreless, but the bottom of the second produced a 3-0 lead. Kourtney Nichols, left fielder, had a key hit in the bottom of the second to score two runs with two outs. The Trojans scored one run in the top of the third and two more in the top of the sixth to tie the game at three apiece. In the bottom of the sixth, second baseman Micaela Folkerts had a key hit to give Chariton a 4-3 win. Ellie Bengston went the distance on the mound and got the win. In seven innings she gave up three runs, all earned, on 12 hits while striking out five and walking one. She also gave up one sacrifice. Folkerts and catcher Emma Fuhs each had two-hit games for the Lady Chargers.
Chariton JV Girls Beat Pleasantville 6-1
Mackenzie Welch pitching a solid game along with good hitting brought the JV Girls a 6-1 win over Pleasantville on June 12th. All six of the runs were scored in the bottom of the fifth. This win brought the team to a 3-3 overall. Welch lasted the whole game as pitcher with Jessica Wiederholt as her catcher. One run was given up in all six innings by Welch. She gave up one earned run on five hits while striking out three and walking none. The defense helped win the game by being error-less. At the plate, Maria Blong went 2-3 with a triple and a single, one run scored and one RBI. Nikki Vande Lune went 1-3 with a double and a run scored. Jessica Wiederholt went 1-3 with a single, a run scored and an RBI. Alexis Curran went 1-3 with a single and RBI. Kelsey Carver went 1-2 with a single, a run scored and an RBI. Sarah Fuhs scored a run and had two RBIs. Meredith Davis scored one run.
