The JV Chariton Chargers softball team had a great night while beating Centerville 7-2, June 17th at Centerville. Kelsey Carver smacked a home run over the right/center field fence hitting the scoreboard. She went 1-1 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Maria Blong also had a big night at the plate going 3-3 with a double, two singles, two runs scored and two RBIs. Mackenzie Welch did a super job on the mound and pitched the whole game with Jessica Wiederholt as her catcher. In six innings, Welch gave up two runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out two and walking three. Chariton's defense also helped her committing just two errors.
The game was scoreless until the top of the third when Chariton scored four runs. With two outs, Wiederholt had a base hit, which was followed by a Blong RBI double off the center field fence. Alexis Curran hit an RBI single up the middle and then Carver smacked a home run to make the score 4-0.
Chariton scored three more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 7-0 lead. Centerville scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning but could get no closer.
Curran went 2-3 with two singles, a run scored and an RBI. Meredith Davis went 1-3 with a single and two RBIs. Welch went 1-2 with a single. Sarah Fuhs went 1-4 with a single and a run scored. Wiederholt went 1-4 with a single and a run scored.
