The Chariton Charger baseball team steamrolled Albia in a doubleheader on June 24th. Chariton won both games, 7-3, and 4-1 to move to 21-2 overall.
In the first game, the Chargers overcame a 3-2 deficit with five runs in the fifth inning to win, 7-3. Pitcher Brett Braida got the win on the mound and also hit a home run. He went 1-2 with a home run, a run scoffed, two RBIs and a walk. Shortstop Jordan Baughman went 3-4 with a double, two singles, a run scored and an RBI.
On the mound, Braida went six innings and gave up three runs, all earned, on five hits while striking out one and walking one. Baughman pitched the other inning and gave up no runs and no hits while striking out two and walking none.
The Chargers cranked out seven runs on eight hits. Center fielder Token Hall went 1-3 with a single, a stolen base and a walk. Third baseman T.J. Hockenson went 1-3 with a double and a run scored. Right fielder Austin Peterson went 1-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Designated hitter Austin Ritenour went 1-2 with a single, a run scored and a walk.
Second baseman Lucas Heaverlo went 0-4. Left fielder Ben Kinser went 0-1 with a walk. Catcher Alex Wright went 0-3 with a run scored and a walk. Charlie Palmer played at first base.
In the second game, the Chargers held the Blue Demons scoreless until the seventh inning and got the win, 4-1. Chariton cranked out four runs on six hits and Palmer tossed a three-hitter. Heaverlo went 2-4 with two singles and a run scored. Baughman went 2-2 with two doubles and three RBIs. Peterson went 1-2 with a double, two runs scored and a walk. Hall went 1-3 with a single and a run scored. Wright, Hockenson, Braida and Kinser each went 0-3. Ritenour went 0-1 with a stolen base and two walks.
On the mound, Palmer went the distance and got the win. In seven innings he gave up one run on three hits while striking out seven and walking three. Chariton scored once in the first and once in the third to take a 2-0 lead. The Chargers scored twice more in the fifth to push the lead to 4-0. The Blue Demons scored their only run in the top of the seventh
