Coach Ben Schooley Named 3A Basketball Coach of the Year

Chariton Head Varsity boys basketball coach Ben Schooley was named as a Class 3A Coach of the Year by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA).  A few of these awards are given out per class and they are voted on by a panel of coaches in the state.
The past season Coach Schooley guided the Chargers to their first boys state basketball appearance since 1972.  They lost to eventual Class 3A champion Dubuque Wahlert in the opening round.  The Chargers also won their first outright South Central Conference title since 1999.  The Chargers won 18 games in a row this past season and finished 9-1 in the conference and 21-4 overall.
This past season was Coach Schooley's third as varsity coach.  He and his wife, Tara, have two children including son Kane, 2, and daughter, Kinsley, 1.  Tara owns and runs the Dance X-Pressions dance studio in Chariton.  Ben teaches in the Chariton school district and is also the head CHS boys golf coach.
