The Chariton varsity boys soccer team lost at Centerville, 2-1, in a hard fought game, May 6th.
Centerville scored a nice cross in the 16th minute of the game. The Chargers had a defensive breakdown that left a Centerville player wide open to head the nice cross past Timofey Timofeyev in the goal. This goal seemed like it was going to be the only goal of the game.
Chariton kept getting decent opportunities but seemed unable to crack the Centerville defense. This was a very frustrating game for the Chargers. They really had more opportunities than Centerville but didn't put them in the net.
The Chargers turned up the pressure in the second half but were still unable to find the back of the net. Centerville added a goal on a corner kick in the 72nd minute of the game to go up, 2-0.
But within a minute Asa St. Lawrence took the ball through the left side of the Centerville defense and hit a great shot with his left foot to bring the Chargers back to within one goal. The Chargers then began pressing to tie the game. But Centerville's defense was too strong and they held on for the win.
