Despite having limited numbers, the Chariton eighth grade boys track team did very well at the South Central Conference middle school meet at Chariton recently. The Chargers won titles in the shot put and sprint medley relay and finished second in the high jump and long jump. As a team Chariton placed sixth overall with 44 points.
"The eighth grade team only ended up with seven boys competing at the SCC meet. I was happy to see them place in several events," CMS eight grade boys coach Corie Gwin said.
Hunter Neer won the shot put title with a throw of 39'1.5". In the 800-sprint medley relay the team of Tyler Anderson, Dylan Stites, Neer and Tommy Sommers placed first in 1:59.60. In the high jump, Sommers placed second overall with a jump of 5'3". In the long jump, Sommers placed second with a jump of 15'10". Anderson finished 13th with a jump of 11'.5".
In the shuttle hurdle relay, the team of Tyler Anderson, Will Exline, Stites and Sommers placed fourth in 1:18.99. In the 4 x 200 relay, the team of Stites, Tyler Anderson, Neer and Exline placed fifth in 2:01.77.
In the 100-meter dash, Gideon Plank placed sixth in 15.17. Plank finished seventh in the 200-meter hurdles in 35.11. Neer placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 89'11".
In the 800-meter run, Exline finished seventh in 2:44,.94. Will Anderson finished ninth in 2:57.37. In the 1,600-meter run, Will Anderson finished ninth in 6:31.29. In the 100-meter hurdles, Plank finished 10th in 20.21.
