A number of high finishes highlighted the day for the Chariton eighth grade girls at the Lil Charger Relays at Chariton recently. Luci Swarthout won the 200-meter hurdles and placed second in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Chariton's shuttle hurdle relay team of Ivy Swarthout, Tressa Shore, Pahri Boyce and Autumn Gwinn placed second overall in 1:22.01.
It was a tough field of competition with bigger schools competing. Chariton placed sixth out of seven teams with 82 points. Grinnell was first with 142 points and Knoxville was second with 113. Norwalk was third with 98. Indianola was fourth with 83.5 and Creston was fifth with 82.5. Clarke was seventh with 73.
Swarthout won the 200-meter hurdles in 30.71. Jacklynn Johnson was ninth in 38.51. In the 100 meters, Swarthout placed second in 13.74. Natalie Baird was 11th in 15.57. Sara Sainey finished 25th in 17.76. Aerial Giesken finished 26th in 18.37.
In the 200-meter dash, Swarthout placed second in 28.96. Aubrie Richards was 10th in 31.49. Swainey was 24th in 38.81. Giesken was 26th in 41.62. In the 4 x 800 relay, the team of Johnson, Taytum Bacus, Ali Godensoph and Megan Schultz placed second in 11:59.76.
In the high jump, Swarthout tied for fourth with a jump of 4'6". In the sprint medley relay team of Abbie Peterson, Boyce, Ashley Pfrimmer and Schultz placed third in 2:17.61. In the distance medley relay, the team of Peterson, Ivy Swarthout, Schultz and Bacus placed third in 5:28.37.
In the 4 x 200 relay, the team of Peterson, Trinity Kemper, Natalie Baird and Allie Smith placed fourth in 2:09.67. In the 4 x 100 relay, the team of Peterson, Kemper, Baird and Smith placed sixth in 1:04.07. In the 4 x 400 relay, the team of Pfrimmer, Johnson, Aubrie Richards and Goldensoph placed sixth in 5:13.23.
In the 1,600-meter run, Johnson was fifth in 6:31.22. In the 800-meter run, Bacus placed seventh in 3:01.13. Kemper finished 11th in 3:12.98. Taheton Decker was 14th in 3:14.98. Goldensoph was 19th in 3:21.87. in the 100-meter hurdles, Shore placed seventh in 18.98. Boyce was 11th in 21.78.
In the discus, Gwinn placed eighth with a throw of 56'4". Smith was 19th with a throw of 43'1". Kemper was 29th with a throw of 42'2". In the long jump, Shore finished 12th with a jump of 12'1.5". Johnson was 16th with a jump of 11'2". Boyce was 17th with a jump of 11'even. In the shot put, Sara Swainey was 10th with a throw of 20'9". Decker was 11th with a throw of 20'4".
In the 400-meter dash, Pfrimmer placed sixth in 1:13.67. Richards was eighth in 1:14.7.
