The Chariton Charger boys track team had one person qualify for state at the 3A District track meet at Dallas Center Grimes on May 15th.
Senior Christian Bengtson qualified for state with a second place finish in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:02.28. As a team, Chariton place eighth overall out of eight teams with 44 points.
"The boys ran great today considering how horrible the weather conditions were. I was very pleased with the great effort all year. We will miss a great group of seniors but I'm very excited with the younger kids and their potential the next couple of years," Chariton Head Coach Josh Snook said.
Chariton's 4 x 800 team of Cody Evans, Bryce Exline, Aaron Cain and Bengtson ran their best time of the year and placed third overall in 8:41.17. Hunter Miller had his best throw of the year in the discus and placed fourth overall with a throw of 119'3". Chase Altenhofen finished ninth with a throw of 104'7". In the shot put, Jared Wright finished eighth with a throw of 37'8". Alec Reynolds finished ninth with a throw of 36'8".
In the 3, 200-meter run, Luke Evans finished fifth with a time of 11:04.99. In the 110-meter hurdles, Ethan Schreck placed sixth with a time of 17.96. In the 4 x 100 relay the team of Stephen McCurdy, Zach McElroy, Dustin Hale and Dillon Sanders placed fifth in 48.20. In the 4 x 200 relay, the team of McCurdy, McElroy, Sanders and Brett Braida placed fifth in 1:40.37.
In the distance medley relay, the team of Sanders, McElroy, Cain and Cody Evans placed fifth in 4:04.67. In the shuttle hurdle relay the team of Schreck, Hale, McCurdy and Austin Cline placed sixth in 1:11.34. In the 4 x 400 relay, the team of Braida, Exline, Nate Hoeger and Cain finished seventh in 3:55.27.
In the 200-meter dash, Braida finished ninth in 25.17. Exline finished 10th in 25.34. In the 100-meter dash, Hoeger finished 11th and Cody Stevenson finished 14th.
In the 1,600-meter run, Luke Evans finished ninth in 5:29.43. Jonah Thatcher finished 14th in 5:42.65. In the 400-meter hurdles, Cline finished 11th in 1:15.58.
In the long jump, Sanders finished 12th with a jump of 15'5". Hale finished 13th with a jump of 15'4".
Dallas Center Grimes won the boys team standings with 131 points. Knoxville was second with 102. ADM Adel was third with 96. Carlisle was fourth with 86 and Bondurant-Farrar was fifth with 82. Perry was sixth with 79 and Saydel was seventh with 69.
