Varsity Charger Boys Fall to Mt. Ayr

Laing Scores 15, Hockenson has Double-Double in Loss

The Chartion Varsity boys had a strong first half, but didn't play as well in the second and ended up with a 45-39 defeat against Mt. Ayr on January 28.  The Chargers defensive game in the first half built a 21-12 lead at halftime, but they didn't execute as well offensively in the second half and were outscored 33-18 to come up a little short.  With the loss, Chariton moved to 14-4 overall.  Daric Laing led the Chargers in scoring with 15 points, three rebounds, one block, one steal and two assists.  T.J. Hockenson had a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 13 rebounds and one assist.  Willie Felderman had six points, five rebounds, three blocks and one steal.  Alex Wright had four points, one rebound, one block, two steals and one assist.  Carl Williams had one point and two rebounds.  Bryce Cunningham had a team-high eight assists to go along with three rebounds and two steals.  Christian Bengtson had four rebounds and three assists.

CHS JV Boys Lose to Mt. Ayr

The Chariton JV Boys basketball team lost 49-43, January 28th, at a non-conference game with Mt. Ayr.  Conner Altenhofen led the Chargers in scoring with 16 points to go along with six rebounds, three steals and one block.  The game was tied 10-10 after one period.  The Raiders outscored the Chargers, 11-10 in the second period to take a 21-20 lead into halftime.  The JV Chargers outscored Mt. Ayr 10-9 in the third to tie the game at 30 heading into the final period.  The Raiders outscored the Chargers, 19-13, in the fourth to get the six-point win.  Quinn Storm had seven points, six rebounds, one block, three steals and one assist.  Ben Morrett had seven points, one rebound, two steals and two assists.  Alec Reynolds had six points and one steal.  Brett Braida had five points, four rebounds and four assists.  Joey Krutsinger had two points and three rebounds.  Eduard Rodygin had two rebounds and Sawyer Dow had one.

Varsity Girls Win Against Mt. Ayr on January 28th

A strong defense lifted the Lady Chargers to a 38-30 win over Mt. Ayr.  After the game was tied 20-20 at halftime, Chariton held the Raiders to just 10 points in the second half.  Miranda Davis led Chariton in scoring with 14 points.  Allyson Showers and Chelsea McGee each had seven points and eight rebounds.  Ball-care helped the Chargers hang on to the lead throughout the game.  Alexis Curran had six points.  Emma Fuhs had two points and one block.  Emily Grismore had two points.  Kylie Bengtson had four assists, five steals and one block.

9th/10th Girls Hold on to Beat Mt. Ayr

The Chariton ninth and tenth grade girls hung on to beat Mt. Ayre, 33-28, in a close game on the road January 28th.  Chariton led 18-16 at halftime and they outscored the Raiders 15-12 in the second half to get the win.  Nine players scored for Chariton.  Meredith Davis had seven points, Maria Blong had six points, two rebounds and one steal.  Carley Arnold had five points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist.  Sarah Fuhs had four points, four rebounds, two steals and one block.  Delaney Richards had three points, two rebounds, one steal and one assist.  Emily Seuferer had two points, two rebounds and two steals.  Haley Reece had two points, two rebounds and one steal.  Jessica Wiederholt had two points, two rebounds and one steal.  Kelsey Carver had two points and one rebound.  Nikki Vande Lune had two rebounds and three steals.  Ryley Heffron had one rebound.
