Five in a row!  Varsity boys beat Grinnell for fifth straight win
The Chariton varsity boys pulled off a huge win with a 64-60 win at Grinnell on January 18th.  The Chargers led by seven at halftime and trailed by two entering the fourth but outscored the Tigers by six in the final period to get the win.

Grinnell entered the game on a four-game winning streak and was 8-2 overall.  They have posted impressive wins so far this season including beating Pella by 14, Dallas Center Grimes by three, and Norwalk by 20.
"The guys played an excellent game to get this win.  Grinnell was one of the best 3A teams in the state and we played a great game against them.  We were really good in the first half offensively, getting the shots we wanted and knocking them down.  We were able to build a small lead early and I think that gave us some confidence,"  Chariton Head Coach Ben Schooley said.
Only four players scored in the whole game for Chariton.  Both Daric Laing and TJ Hockenson had big games offensively to help get the win.  Hockenson went 11-17 from the field and 5-5 from the line to finish with a team high 27 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal.  Laing went 4-6 from three point range and 8-9 from the line to finish with 26 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

"I was proud of the composure the boys showed and were able to answer back and win this game.  We battled them defensively all night.  They were a much bigger team than we were and the guys just kept fighting at the defensive end.  The boys have been practicing well lately and it showed in the game.  We had to make some key free throws down the stretch in this game.  We turned the ball over too much and that's something we need to work on, but overall the guys played an amazing game and I am happy to see that they were able to pull this one out." Coach Schooley said.
