Varsity Boys beat Trojans

A dynamite second half defensively lifted the Chariton varsity boys to a 66-56 win at Pleasantville  December 5th.  The Chargers led by one at halftime but outscored the Trojans by nine in the second half to get the double-digit win.  Daric Laing scorched the nets with a team-high 30 points including 5-8 shooting from beyond the arc or trifecta land.  He also had four rebounds, four assists and two steals.  With the win Chariton improved to 1-1 overall.
T.J. Hockenson had a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds including 12 defensive boards.  He also had one steal and one assist.  Ben Morrett had nine points, two rebounds, four assists and one steal.  Willie Felderman had seven points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.  Christian Bengtson had five points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Brett Braida had two points, two rebounds, one block and one assist.  Alec Reynolds had two points, one rebound and three assists.  Hunter Storm had one point and one rebound.
Chariton led 19-14 after one period.  The Trojans outscored the Charger 20-16 in the second to cut the lead to 35-34 at halftime.  Chariton turned up the defense in the third period and held the Trojans to just five points and increased their lead to 12 after three periods.  Pleasantville couldn't really cut into the lead as they outscored the Chargers just 17-15 in the fourth.
For the game, Chariton shot 15-36, 42 percent, from inside the arc and 7-13, 54 percent, from three point range.  The Chargers shot 15-22, 68 percent, from the line.  Chariton had 34 rebounds including 27 defensive boards.  Chariton committed just 11 turnovers and had 17 assists, seven steals and one block.  They also committed 18 fouls.
