Chargers Sweep Fairfield and Remain Unbeaten

The sweep at Fairfield moved the Chariton Varsity baseball team to 6-0.  Chariton jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first game and held on for an 8-5 win.  The Chargers came from behind in the second game to win a nailbiter, 7-6.

In the first game, Cameron Knust pitched a great game and got the win.  In the second game, the Chargers fell behind 3-0 early.  Dalton Stites settled in on the mound and kept Chariton in the game as the Chargers mounted their comeback.  In the top of the seventh, Chariton was in business again with runners on second and third with no one out.  They were unable to score with the next two batters.  However Tyler Knust belted a clutch two-out double to bring home both runners and give Chariton a 7-5 lead.

The play of the game happened in the fourth inning when the Chargers scored their first run.  Tyler Knust was on third with nobody out when Dillon Lundy popped up a ball right in front of the first base dugout.  The Fairfield catcher left the home plate area to follow the pop-up which was caught by the first baseman and Knust alertly tagged up and scored on the pop-up.
