May 9, the team traveled to Monroe and came away with a hard-fought well deserved 1-0 win. With the win the Chariton team moved to 5-5 overall.
The girls started the game strong controlling the play, with the defensive back of four, Taylor Sherrick, Rachelle Ruepke, Quincy Swarthout and Chelsea McGee, they denied the Mustangs any possession and allowed Chariton's midfield to control play.
In the 25th minute, after having several opportunities, the Chargers scored when defender, Sam Banks, won the ball in the PCM half of the field and quickly passed to center midfielder, Cierra Covington. Covington dribbled down the right side and sent the ball across the mouth of the goal where forward, Kourtney Nichols, positioned herself to receive the ball and put it in the net for the eventual game-winning goal. Chariton still held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The Lady Chargers controlled play throughout the second half as they totaled 20 shots during the game, 10 of which were on goal, but none of which could be converted into goals.
