Lady Charger Soccer Team Roars Past Polar Bears in Season Opening Win
The Lady Charger soccer team opened their season at home with a 2-0 win over Des Moines North on April 8th. Senior forward Kourtney Nichols scored both goals in the win.
Chariton couldn't have begun the season any better, scoring just 25 seconds into the contest when midfielder Grismore stole the ball and quickly passed it into the right flank where Nichols gathered the ball and drove as hot past the Polar Bear goalkeeper inside the near post. Nichols netted her second goal of the evening 20 minutes into the contest when she intercepted a North pass and attacked the goal, sliding the ball past the keeper to give Chariton a 2-0 lead.
Chariton dominated play and had numerous chances in the early going of the second half, but failed to get the ball in the back of the net and walked away with a 2-0 win. Charger head coach Dennis St. Lawrence commented after the game, "This was a good way to start the season. We lost 10 of our top 14 players from last year's squad, so we have a lot of inexperienced players and it was good for them to get game experience without being under intense pressure. Emily did a great job of distributing the ball, we just need to finish better."
