The Chariton boys track team had a banner day with titles and two second place finishes at the Clarke Relays at Osceola April 17th Christian Bengtson won the 800 meter with a blistering time of 2:03.52, nearly six seconds ahead of the second place finisher. The Charger 4 x 800 relay team of Cody Evans, Aaron Cain, Evan Havick and Bengtson also placed first in a time of 8:44.54, almost 11 seconds ahead of the second place team.
Luke Evans placed second in the 3,200 meter run in 10:57.82. In the distance medley relay, the team of Dillon Sanders, Zach McElroy, Cain and Havivk also placed second in 3:59.85. As a team, Chariton placed fourth overall (out of eight teams) with 63 points.
The Chargers also had two third place finishes in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200. In the 4 x 100, the team of Stephen McCurdy, McElroy, Austin Ritenour and Saunders placed third in 47.56. In the 4 x 200 the team of McCurdy, McElroy, Ritenour and Brett Braida placed third in 1:39.69.
In the 110 meter hurdles, Ethan Schreck placed fourth in 18 seconds even. Braida placed fourth in the 200 meter dash in 24.28. Bryce Exline placed ninth in 25.55. In the 100 meter dash, Sanders ran his best time of the year and placed fifth overall in 11.68. In the 400 meter dash, Exline placed fifth in 55.42. Cody Moore finished eight in 56.66.
In the shuttle hurdle relay, the team of Schreck, Dustin Hale, McCurdy and Austin Cline placed fifth in 1:11.37. In the 1,600 meter run, Evans placed sixth in 5:10.45. In the 400 meter hurdles, Austin Cline finished eighth in 1:11.21.
Knoxville won the team standings with 147.5 points. Clarke was second with 86.5. Nodaway Valley was third with 73. Van Meter was fifth with 58. Southwest Valley was sixth with 49. Central Decatur and Interstate 35 each tied for seventh with 40.
