The Chariton Charger boys soccer team held their home opener against the PCM Mustangs April 10th and came away with a 3-0 victory. Chariton scored three first half goals and played awesome defense in the second half to even their record at 1-1.
Willie Felderman opened the scoring with a shot just outside the box on another nice pass from Spencer Sherrick. The Chargers attacked off the restart after their first goal with Felderman making a nice steal and heading to the corner where he sent a nice pass to Asa St. Lawrence. St. Lawrence attacked the goal and fended off the last PCM defender to score a nice goal right on top of the Mustangs goalie to make the score 2-0.
The Chargers scored their first two goals in 40 seconds. The game was quiet for 23 minutes until St. Lawrence sent a great cross into the box where Eduard Rodygin headed it into the goal for the third goal of the game to make the score 3-0. The second half was scoreless and the Chariton defense held tough to preserve their first shutout of the season.
JV Chargers fall 2-0
The JV Charger soccer team showed improvement but fell to PCM, 2-0, at Chariton on April 10th.
"This game was better than the first one was for the JV team. We were able to handle the logistics of the game much better. But we struggled with possession and were unable to put very many passes together," Coach Jay Pierschbacher said.
The JV team has yet to score this season. "I know that the JV team is getting better with each game. The Mustangs were more than they could handle on this day" Coach Pierschbacher said.
