The Chariton girls tennis team traveled to Saydel for a triangular match with Saydel and Knoxville on April 17th. Chariton had two of their varsity players play in singles competition and the other four top varsity players playing in doubles competition. There were four singles matches and four doubles matches.
In singles play, Justine Hamilton lost to Knoxville's Emily Blankenship, 8-0. Hamilton lost to Melanie Gustafson of Saydel, 8-2. Alexis Mullins lost to Sam Thompson of Knoxville, 8-1. She also lost a close match to Michaela Bobenhase of Saydel, 7-9.
In doubles play, the team of Sheena Savage/Aspen Koehn lost to the Knoxville team of Taylor Carter/Paige Spowart, 8-2. The team of Koehn/Savage had a nice win over the team of MacKenzie Miller/Sydney Samples of Saydel, 8-5. The team of Mikayal Keith/Courtney Shounkwiler lost to the Knoxville team of Natalie Warrall/Madison Chrisman, 8-2. The team of Keith/Shounkwiler lost to the team of MacKenzie Carter/Casey Brown of Saydel, 8-2.
"Knoxville has a really strong team. We tried our hardest and didn't give up. With Saydel we were more evenly matched. We had a couple of chances to beat them, but ended up only winning one match," Chariton Head Coach Chelsy Arnold said.
"This was the first triangular meet any of the coaches had done. It went very smooth, but next time I will pair up my girls a little differently. It was a really good experience for everyone!" Coach Arnold Said.
