Varsity Girls win 61-34
A subpar performance hurt the Chariton varsity girls in a 61-34 conference loss at Clarke January 17th. The Lady Chargers trailed by seven at halftime and were outscored 38-18 in the second half by a team that had beaten them earlier this season. Allyson Showers led Chariton with 20 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
Chariton beat Clarke in overtime, 42-40, at Chariton on December 9th. With the loss Friday night Chariton fell to 2-3 in the SCC and 4-6 overall.
Chariton Head Coach Lee Sandy was displeased with his team's effort.
Chariton led by 14-6 early but Clarke ended the first period on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 14-14 at the end of the period. Clarke outscored the Lady Chargers 9-2 in the second to take a 23-16 lead into halftime. Things got worse in the second half for Chariton as Clarke outscore them 21-7 in the third period to lead 44-23 after three periods. Chariton was unable to get a rally going in the fourth and was outscored 17-11 in the final period.
For the game, Chariton shot 14-47 from the field and 6-10 from the line. Clarke shot 21-51 from the field and 13-17 from the line. One bright spot was that Chariton out-rebounded Clarke, 34-23. Chariton also had six blocks, six steals and seven assists. Clarke had six steals and six assists. Chariton committed 17 turnovers while Clarke had eight.
