Turnovers, Stagnant Offense Hurt 7th A Boys in Loss to Eddyville
The Chariton seventh grade A boys struggled with turnovers in a 42-31 loss against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, January 30th. Nathan Blong led Chariton with 15 points and six rebounds.
"Turnovers and a stagnant offense were our downfall today. We committed 15 turnovers in the first half allowing Eddyville to jump to a 22-10 lead. That's a very large hole to dig out of. We took care of the ball a little better in the second half, but we were very inpatient and not aggressive against EBF's zone defense," Chariton Head Coach Mike Jones said.
Royce Stewart had five points and four rebounds. Brady Hamilton had four points and three rebounds. Cameron McDonald had three points. Nathan Weaver had two points and one rebound. Colbie Werts had two points. Brodey Johnson had three rebounds.
B Team Loses Close Game
The B team lost a close game, 10-8. Jimmy Graham had two points and one rebound. Ben Lahart, Tyler Gookin and Payton Schaffer had two points apiece.
Chance Anderson had four rebounds. Aaron Sullenger had two rebounds. Payton Lane had one rebound.
"Missed opportunities could be the theme for this game. We missed a few layup chances in this game and also missed extra opportunities on offensive rebounds, but the bright side is that we are finally making those second opportunities for ourselves. The kids are improving, especially at attacking the offensive boards and are also making progress at running a fast break and attacking the basket," Coach Jones said.
