The Chariton Varsity Softball team placed third at the Winterset Tournament this past weekend. The second-ranked Lady Chargers routed Van Meter, 10-0, in the opener and lost 10-8 to 3A's third-ranked team, Dallas Center Grimes, in the second game. In the third game, Chariton beat Interstate 35, 10-6 to finish third.
In the Van Meter game, Presley Swan had two home runs. Swan went 2-3 with two home runs and two RBI's. Abbee Curran went 2-3 with two singles and two runs scored. Curran had a bunt for a single which moved Miller to third. Curran stole second and Miranda Davis walked. Swan hit back to back home runs again to push the lead to 8-0.
In the Dallas Grimes game, Swan doubled and advanced to third on Curran's single. Swan scored on a passed ball to cut DCG's lead to 5-3. Swan singled to score Seuferer to cut the lead to 5-4. In the sixth, Curran drew a lead off walk. Nichols singled to score Curran. Swan went 2-4 with a double, single, a run scored and an RBI. Curran went 1-3 with a single, a run scored and a walk.
In the Interstate 35 game, Swan went 2-4 with a single, double, a run scored and four RBI's. Curan went 0-3 with a run scored.
