Strong Defensive Effort Lifts Varsity Boys to Big Win Over Knoxville
A strong defensive effort in the first half along with hot shooting lifted the Chariton varsity boys to an 81-63 win over Knoxville at Chariton December 16th. The Chargers held the Panthers to just four points after one period and led 36-17 at halftime. Daric Laing went 7-8 at the line and finished with a team-high 27 points, three rebounds, one steal and three assists.
Chariton stormed out to a 23-4 lead after the first period. Each team scored 13 in the second period and the Chargers led 36-17 at halftime. Knoxville couldn't cut into Chariton's lead as each team scored 20 points in the third and the Panthers outscored Chariton by one in the fourth.
For the game, Chariton shot 27-50, 54 percent, from inside the arc and 3-8, 38 percent, from three-point range. Chariton shot 18-29, 62 percent, from the line. Chariton committed 15 fouls and 11 turnovers. Chariton had 23 assists, four steals and zero blocks.
Willie Felderman had 18 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and one steal. T.J. Hockenson had 13 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and one steal. Christian Bengtson had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. Joey Krutsinger had six points, four rebounds and one assist. Ben Morrett had five points, two rebounds and five assists. Brett Braida had two points, one steal and two assists. Alec Reynolds had two rebounds and one assist.
