Varsity Boys lose at Centerville
Varsity boys finish second in SCC at 7-3
The Varsity boys ended their conference play with a 66-54 loss to Centerville on February 1st. Early in the game the boys fell behind and ended up at halftime 11 points behind the Big Reds. They brought the deficit to two in the third period but didn't execute down the stretch and Centerville was able to pull away in the fourth quarter. Overall, the Chargers are now 14-5. Daric Laing led the Chargers in scoring with 16 points, four rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals. T.J. Hockenson had 15 points, two rebounds and one assist. Bryce Cunningham had 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Will Felderman had a team-high nine rebounds, five points, two steals and one assist. Alex Wright had three points, seven rebounds, one block, one steal and one assist. Christian Bengtson had three points. Brett Braida had one assist. Hunter Storm and Alec Reynolds each had one rebound.
JV Boys Beat Centerville
After a strong first three quarters, the Chariton JV boys showed poise and made clutch plays down the stretch in a 44-48 win at Centerville on February 1st. Connor Altenhofen had a big game for the JV Chargers with a team-high 22 points, nine rebounds, one block, one steal and one assist. Altenhofen, came through when at the end, with a two point lead and seconds left, he made two big free throws to give Chariton a four-point lead and put the game out of reach. With the win, Chariton improved to 7-8 overall. Brett Braida had 10 points, one rebound, two steals and three assists. Ben Morrett had eight points, two rebounds, one steal and three assists. Quinn Storm had two points, six rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists. Hunter Storm had two points, one rebound, one block, one steal and two assists. Joey Krutsinger had two points, two rebounds and two steals. Eduard Rodygin had two points. Alec Reynolds had two rebounds and one steal. Sawyer Dow had two assists. Sean Sullenger had one rebound and one assist.
Varsity Girls Get Six in a Row Against Centerville
Their win over Centerville, 51-42, gave the Varsity girls' their sixth straight win in a row. The game, played at Chariton on February 1, was played on Senior Night. It was a game of runs where Chariton led 25-18 at halftime and held on in the second half to win. Allyson Showers had a huge game with a team-high 16 points and 13 rebounds along with one block. Miranda Davis had another big game offensively with 15 points. With the win, Chariton moved to 9-10 overall and finished in a third place tie with Davis County in the conference at 5-5. Chariton opens up District play against Clarke at Clarke on February 9th at 7 p.m. Emily Grismore had eight points. McGee had five points and eight rebounds. Alexis Curran had four points and four steals. Kylie Bengtson had three points, four assists and one block.
9th Charger Boys Lost to Centerville
The Chariton freshmen boys' basketball team lost a close game to Centerville, 36-31, at Centerville on February 1st. Aaron Cain led the Chargers in scoring with 14 points to go along with four rebounds. For the game, Chariton shot 9-32, 28 percent, from inside the arc and 2-9, 22 percent from three-point range. Brad Krutsinger had six points, seven rebounds, one block, three steals and two assists. Spencer Sherrick had four points, one rebound and five steals. Adam Kaska had three points, three rebounds, three steals and one assist. Chase Altenhofen had two points, five rebounds and one assist.Curnutte had two points, five rebounds and one assist. Carter Riechmann had one rebound and one steal. Cody Evans had one rebound.
