Turnovers hurt Chargers in homecoming loss to Oskaloosa
Three first half interceptions and a touchdown called back by penalty greatly hurt the Chariton Chargers in their bid for a homecoming win against Oskaloosa on September 20th. The Indians converted two of the interceptions into scores and built a 21-7 halftime lead. Oskaloosa scored twice more in the second half while Chariton scored two fourth quarter touchdowns in a 35-21 loss.
Senior quarterback Christian Bengtson, who was crowned homecoming king earlier in the day, had a tough first half throwing the three picks. While trailing just 7-0, Bengtson threw what was an apparent 85 yard touchdown to right end TJ Hockenson that was called back by an illegal block in the back penalty.
Bengtson played better in the second half and rushed for a 17 yard touchdown and threw for a 15 yard touchdown to Hockenson in the fourth quarter. Hockenson had an outstanding receiving game with seven catches for 189 yards and a touchdown.
