Arnold has eight boards, six blocks
The Chariton varsity girls struggled from the field in a 43-26 loss to Fairfield at the Charger Dome on February 11th. The Lady Chargers trailed by just one at the end of the first period but were outscored 36-20 the rest of the way.
"I thought we played pretty well defensively tonight, but we continued to have shooting woes. We were missing senior forward Allyson Showers who was home sick. Maria Blong had nine points off the bench," Chariton Head Coach Lee Sandy said.
Blong's nine points led the team and she also had one assist. Emily Grismore had seven points and five steals. Carley Arnold had a team high eight rebounds and a team high six blocks. She also had five points and one assist. Emma Fuhs had five points, six rebounds and one assist.
Chariton got off to a good start and trailed just 7-6 after one period. The Lady Trojans outscored them 14-4 in the second and extended their lead to 21-10 at halftime. Chariton was outscored 12-8 in the third and trailed 33-18 after three periods. The fourth period was also low scoring but the Lady Chargers weren't able to get a rally going offensively and couldn't really cut into the lead.
For the game, Chariton shot 8-39 from the field and 9-16 from the line. Fairfield shot 14-42 from the field and 12-15 from the line. Chariton out-rebounded Fairfild, 37-27. Chariton committed 23 turnovers and 15 fouls. Fairfield committed 13 turnovers and 18 fouls. The Lady Chargers had four assists. They did a good job defensively with 15 steals and nine blocks. Fairfield had five assists, five steals and eight blocks.
