Chariton Boys win Championship at Nodaway Valley

The Chariton varsity boys soccer team kept up their stellar play in winning the championship at the Nodaway Valley Tournament.  The Chargers won both matches they played beating West Central Valley Stuart, 3-1 and beating Nodaway Valley, 5-2.  It was the first time Chariton had won the Nodaway Valley Tournament since 2006.

Cole Pierschbacher sent the ball across the goal and the keeper knocked it down, but Caleb Olson was there to put it into the net to give Chariton a 1-0 lead.  Chariton add two more goals in the second half.  Olson sent a nice cross and Chsen Blue went over the top of the nearest defender putting the ball in the back of the net.

In the championship game, Chariton used a barrage of three goals in three minutes to help them get the win.  Pierschbacher started the scoring on a really nice assist by Austin Burlin.  Pierschbacher was able to break in behind the defense because of this nice pass and he put the ball past the goalie in the 23rd minute.  Chariton scored its next goal just a minute later when Chasen Blue sent a nice ball across and Shawn Kearney was right there to knock it in the back of the net in the 24th minute to give Chariton a 2-0 lead.  One minute later, Kearney returned the favor to Blue when he sent a nice ball across that Blue trapped and kicked into the left corner of the goal.  Pierschbacher scored his second goal of the game when he got the ball at midfield and dribbled through the defense to score a break away in the 50th minute to give Chariton a 4-0 lead.  In the last seconds, Chariton scored one more goal to make the score 5-2.
