McCurdy has Phenomenal Performance

Junior running back has 217 yards rushing, five TD's in win.


The Chariton JV football team used a 20-point fourth quarter along with a great performance by Stephen McCurdy to win a tightly contested thriller, 42-36, at Knoxville Monday night.  Trailing 36-34 with 31 seconds left, McCurdy scored the game-winning touchdown with a three-yard run, and then he ran in the two-point conversion.
McCurdy's game consisted of 217 yards rushing on 37 carries, five touchdowns and two two-point conversions.  He also had three solo tackles, one assist, one tackle for loss, two kickoff returns for 45 yards and five punt returns for 70 yards.
Knoxville led 15-8 after one period and each team scored once in the second to make the score 22-16 Panthers at halftime.  But the Chargers had a great fourth quarter outscoring the Panthers 20-7 to get the big "Win".
Chariton dominated the stats with 17 first downs to just two for Knoxville.  The Chargers amassed 413 yards of offense to 233 for the Panthers.  Chariton had 94 yards passing while the Panthers had 137.  The Chargers rushed for 319 yards on 55 carries while the Panthers rushed for 96 yards on 17 carries.  Chariton had one turnover while Knoxville had none.  The Chargers committed two penalties for 10 yards while the Panthers committed four for 35.
