Charger baseball team receives $10,000 donation
to kick start fundraising campaign
Campaign is to build new hitting area next to Milledge Field
The Chariton Charger baseball team recently received a generous donation to help kick start a new fundraising campaign.
Tod Hockenson, Tony Kaska and Tim Michael from the following companies, Hy-Vee and Midwest Heritage Bank and Insurance Services and the Chariton Hy-Vee Food Store donated a $10,000 check to members of the CHS varsity baseball team, shown in the picture below:
The baseball team plans to build a new hitting area next to Milledge Field that will consist of two batting tunnels, ample room outside the cages for 10-12 players to work at hitting stations simultaneously and a metal roof to cover the cages allowing for practice during and after inclement weather.
The estimate for the project is between $20,000-$24,000. The existing cage (one) needs the netting replaced, plus it sits in a low lying area where water sits for days making it unusable. The Chargers are the only conference team that doesn't have at minimum double batting tunnels as part of their baseball facilities.
They are very grateful for the donation. To have three well known and respected businesses backing their project means a lot to the team.
Fundraising is ongoing for this project, including an exciting dinner fundraiser held November 19 at Carpenter's Hall with guests Casey Blake and Jeremy Hellickson. The Chargers are still looking for businesses and individual donors to help with this project and hope to have it completed by the start of practice next spring.
