The Chariton varsity football team will try to get in the win column when they travel to Ft. Madison this week. Offensively, Colton Black will start at center for Chariton and Travis Morr and Cody Carroll will be the starting guards. Blake Paige and Austin Peterson will rotate in and out as wide receivers. Carroll and Morr will be the defensive tackles. Ronny Christensen and Zinchenko will start at linebacker along with either Alex Wright or Grgurich. Trenary and Paige will be the starting cornerbacks and JC Granahan will start at safety. Peterson will rotate in at safety and Chasen Blue will rotate in at cornerback. Blue will also handle kicking duties.

9th Charger Football Team falls to Fairfield
The Chariton Freshman football team continued to show improvement in a 44-8 loss to Fairfield at homecoming last week. Defensively, Sawyer Dow had seven tackles and a fumble recovery.
Dow, Poush score Touchdowns in 7th FB loss to Clarke
The Chariton seventh grade football team played hard but came up shor in a 54-12 loss at Clarke September 22. Blake Poush and Carver Dow each scored touchdowns for the Chargers, who moved to 0- 4 with the loss. Dow rushed for a one-yard touchwon on one carry. Levi Abbas went 5-7 for 75 yards and an interception. Dow went 2-3 for 49 yards and an interception.
Schultz 56th at Knoxville
Only four runners finished the race at the Knoxville Invitational on October 4. Abbie Schultz led Chariton placing 56th in 20:08. Renae Beard didn't finish the race. Pella won the varsity team standings with 31 points. Chariton didn't register a team score.

Varsity Net Team Falls to Clarke 3-1
The Chariton varsity girls volleyball team gave a valiant effort but fell at Clarke, 3-1, this past Tuesday night. Chariton had 42 digs as a team and Leah Dow had eight.
Team Effort lifts CHS JV Football Team to Win
The Chariton JV football team kicked off homecoming week with a decisive 14-0 win over Ottumwa JV at Chariton Sept. 19. Chasen Blue scored a touchdown and Stephen McCurdy scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion for the JV Chargers. Chasen led the team in rushing with 74 yards on seven carries. Alex Wright had two solo tackles, three assists and a tackle for a loss. Chasen also had one assist tackle and two interceptions. Greg Beard had one assist and one sack. Alec Reynolds had one tackle for a loss.
Charger 8th Grade Team Annilates Clarke 45-16
The Chariton eighth grade boys put together another impressive performance with a 45-16 win over Clarke September 22. The Chargers jumped out to a 24-0 lead at halftime and never looked back. A good game was played by the boys. Passing and running were both very good. Tyler Feehan had four tackles.

Chantelle Schreck of Russell has been hnored as a Presidential Scholar at AIB College of Business for the 2011 Summer Term. To be named a Presidential Scholar, Schreck had to attain a grade point average of 3.80 or higher for the term. Schreck is earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting at AIB.

Pella Football Game on Sept. 12 Lose 16-12

8th Chargers Score 50 in Knoxville Win
The Chariton eighth grade football team turned in their second impressive performance in as many games with a 50-14 drubbing of Knoxville this past tuesday night, September 13. The win moved Chariton to 2-0 and Carter Isley topped the century mark in rushing with 115 yards. Taylor Feehan had two tackles.

Lady Chargers lose at Twin Cedars
The Lady Chargers volleyball team lost a non-conference match, 3-0, at Twin Cedars Monday night, September 19th. The scores of the match were 2 4-26, 11-25, and 19-25. Briellyn Black went 4-6 with one kill.

Freshman Charger Football Team Falls to Pella
The Chariton Freshman football team took on a real powerhouse when it faced Pella at Reynolds Field this past Friday night, September 9th. The Chargers lost, 57-0 in their district opener. Pella was tough to stop on offense as they amassed 446 yards of offense from scrimmage including 520 yards rushing. Sawyer Dow led the team in receiving with four catches for 39 yards. Dow also had two tackles.
Chariton Girls 10th at Osky X-C Meet
The Chariton girls cross country team competed at the Oskaloosa Invitational at Edmundson Park Tuesday night, September 13. Chariton placed 10th out of 13 teams with 301 points. Abbie Schultz led Chariton placing 57th overall in 20:28. Renae Beard placed 73rd in 23:19.

CHS JV Football Team Loses at Albia
The Chariton JV football team came up short in a 20-7 loss at Albia September 6. The JV Chargers were unable to get anything going offensively and the Blue Demons had a strong night on the ground rushing for 254 yards on 46 carries. With the loss the JV Chargers moved to 1-1 overall. Matt Schultz had a solid game defensively with 13 tackles including three solo tackles and 10 assists. Lane Blue kicked an extra point to make the score 12-7 at halftime. Chasen Blue rused 27 yards on five carries and he caught a one-yard pass. Alec Reynolds had two solo tackels and four assisted tackles. Chasen Blue had five assited tackles and Greg Beard and Carl Williams each had three assisted tackles. Kenny Pennington had two assisted tackles.

The Chariton varsity volleyball team opened up conference play at vaunted Davis County this past Tuesday night, September 6. The Lady Chargers battled hard but fell to the Lady Mustangs, 3-0. The scores of the match were 10-25, 6-25, 23-25. With the loss Chariton moved to 0-1 in conference play and 1-3 overall. Kinser led the team with five digs and Leah Dow had three.
Chariton X-C Girls take Fourth at Pekin High School
The Chariton girls cross country team showed improvement at the Pekin Invitational this past Tuesday night, September 6, 2011. This is the first time the Chariton boys and girls have run at this meet, which was held at Lake Keomah over near Oskaloosa. The meet was hosted by Pekin High School. Chariton had four runners place in the top 40. Abbie Schultz led Chariton and placed 29th overall in 20:31. Renae Beard placed 43rd in 22:14. Pekin won the meet with 28 points. Albia was second with 89 and Southeast Warren was third with 115.
Varsity X-C Girls Sixth at Fairfield
The Chariton varsity girls ran against some stiff competition at the Fairfield Invitational this past Thursday night, September 9, 2011. All of the Lady Chargers running varsity placed in the top 40 in the meet. As a team Chariton placed sixth out of seven teams with 173 points. In the varsity race, Abbie Schultz led Chariton placing 31st overall in 20:10. Renae Beard didn't run.
Chargers Struggle in Opener against Pella
The Chargers struggled against a very fast and talented Pella team in its District Opener at Reynolds Field on September 9, 2011. Chariton Varsity team was riddled with injuries. The Chargers played hard and valiantly but couldn't quite match up in a 47-0 loss to the Little Dutch. Chargers overall are 0-1 in District play.Due to hand injuries suffered by Chariton starting tailback, Brendan Laing, and converted tailback Turner Trenary, the Chargers tried a tailback by committee approach that included Matt Schultz, Token Hall, Stephen McCurdy and Lucas Heaverlo. Pella had just one turnover, which ws an interception by Chariton's Chasen Blue. Blue made a great pick and returned the ball to the Little Dutch 31 but on the very next play, Schultz fumbled it away giving the ball back to Pella. Individual Stats: Rushing -Schultz 17-32; receiving - Schultz 1-3; tackles - Carroll 5 assists, Peterson 3 solos, 4 assists, Chasen Blue - 1 solo, 1 assist, 1 interception; Wright 1 solo, 5 assists.

Freshmen Boys lose 52-6 to Albia
Despite an improved offensive effort, the Chariton freshmen boys lost 52-6 to Albia in a non-district game at Chariton this past Friday night, September 2. Sawyer Dow had the team's only score with a 12-yard scoring run. Dow also had three catches for 25 yards. He also had six tackles.

JV Charger Football Team win against Creston
Clutch plays along with a stellar game by Austin Peterson lifted the Chariton JV football team to a 19-6 win over Creston in their season opener at Chariton August 29. Peterson, a junior, was playing defensive back for the first time in his career and had an all-star caliber game. He had two interceptions, caused another interception with a deflected pass and caused a fumble to along with three solo tackles and three assisted tackles. "Austin won the game for us with his outstanding individual effort", Chariton JV Head Coach Jos Snook said.
Offensively, Token Hall, Brett Hardin and Chasen Blue each scored a touchdown. Lane Blue kicked an extra point. Chasen rushed for 27 yards on three carries. He caught three passes for 45 yards. He had two solo tackles, two assisted tackles and two interceptions.
Alec Reynolds had one assisted tackle and Kenny Pennington had one assisted tackle.
Wayne Invitational held on September 1, 2011

On a very hot and humid night, the Chariton varsity girls cross country team opened up their season at the Wayne Invitational at Corydon Thursday night. The Lady Charger varsity runners placed seventh out of 13 teams with 184 points. Abbie Schultz, a sophomore led Chariton placing 26th overall in 20:37. Davis County won with 37 points, Centerville was a close second. Albia was third with 73. Clarke was fourth with 137. Bedford was fifth with 156. Central Decatur was sixth with 171.
